Happy 2014: A Year for Self Care

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday season (all 2 of my readers, lol!) I did, and just like everyone else, I am transitioning to the holiday let down. I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. I love the newness of the year, a fresh start, and the opportunity to set some self improvement goals. But here in UT, it is cold, the snow is dirty, and inversion starts to really kick in, this is the hate part!
I am one of those sick tickets that love New Year's Resulotions.
(I have never claimed to be normal ;) Because I have a lot going on in life, and my kids are getting older I want to continue to develop solid relationships with them and my husband as well. This is usually a big focus for me. I reflect on the last year, to help me ponder what I want to focus on in the upcoming one. I ponder what has become important (like really important) to me, and what I might need to let go of. I think about where I want to invest my time, knowing I want the time I spend to be invested in uplifting things- things that make me happy, and further develop who I am.
Believe it or not, this blog was an item that I was pondering to let go. I was really thinking about what the purpose was, and why I would/would not keep it. I had to ask myself if I was doing this for me or others? Obviously any blog, to an extent is for others so the question was what was my motivation? Ultimately, I decided this was for me. A place for me to invest in myself by connecting with other people.
I know that sounds strange, I'm caring for myself by connecting with other people?-but its true. In the last 6 months I have learned a lot about myself, and I have learned a lot about what it takes to get through the hard times. I am fortunate enough to have a support system to help me through these times. Not everybody does. What I've been through with the anxiety attacks, isn't something you should ever have to go through alone. So I have decided to make sure that my blog is not just a place of how-to's for home improvement, decorating, or homemaking, but it will also be a place to learn about what it means to have #selfcare. Self care isn't only about caring for yourself, it's about learning to love yourself and have compassion for yourself. I am excited for what this year will bring for me and my family, and I hope that here at A Whole Lot of Schmidt we can help you with your upcoming year as well.

I love New Year's Resolutions, except I always set goals that hard on myself. The idea of self-care might help me to set more realistic goals. That would be loving myself, right? Thanks for the post.
